It was a beautiful day in big sky country! Saturday we spent the day in the eastern part of the state in Miles City, Montana. Community partners hosted the Cowtown Cook-off as part of the Ryno-palooza event. There were 28 teams in this Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned contest. It was good to get back into the rhythm of competition cooking and see all our old bbq buddies for our first cook of the season. We had KCBS judge, Rick, cooking with us to help him achieve his master level for judging.
The pork we used for the ribs and porkbutt categories were from Compart Family Farms, we always have great luck with their products. The brisket we cooked was from Stone Ranch Montana Wagyu.
We waited as patiently as we could for the awards ceremony at 4 that afternoon. We got a 6th place call for the porkbutt category. We were hoping for a little bit better scores but we took it in stride for being our first cook of the year. Got a few things to work on and we couldn’t be happier for our friends Beer Belly Bbq swept up the Grand Champion! Grant has been putting in a lot of work and we’re glad to see it finally paid off for him!
Congrats to all the other teams, and thank you to the Miles City Chamber, Miles City Community Improvement Inc., and Cowtown Cook-off for putting together this event. AND! thank you to whoever ordered the weather–it was absolutely perfect!
