The Hot Brown sandwich is said to have originated in the 1920’s, created at the sandwich’s namesake: the Brown Hotel.  The hotel would throw lavish parties, during which guests would work up an appetite.  Fred Schmidt, the head chef created this new dish with items he had on hand in the kitchen.
